Who We Are
African music and cultural traditions are rooted in ancient socio-emotional philosophies, based on our universal human need to connect, to have purpose, belonging and awareness. The Knowing Project is a social enterprise that delivers programs utilizing the tools of African music, culture and ancient science to improve social emotional intelligence and enhance wellbeing and resilience.
What We Do
We design and deliver programs for the education, business and community sectors. Based in Melbourne, Australia, we have over 15 years experience educating young people, bringing communities and workplaces together and inspiring leadership.
UNDER THE BAOBAB TREE
Under The Baobab Tree integrates a framework of Social Emotional Learning with African music and cultural knowledge to improve well-being, social cohesion, mindfulness and resilience. The program teaches children drumming, body percussion and African chanting within a SEL framework that emphasises connecting with self, each other and the community through physical, sensory and emotional awareness.
For the Workplace
SOCIAL EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE
Our programs for the workplace use African music, culture and ancient science to develop social emotional intelligence. We explore how to better understand ourselves and those around us in order to enable creative and collaborative work environments where individuals and groups are able to thrive.
social cohesion program
Our community programs respond to the local challenges that effect social cohesion and community harmony such as isolation and loneliness. Interactions and connections among people with different demographic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds has a positive impact on local community cohesion. This translates into friendly, connected and safe communities
